Beautiful autumn day, went for a ride but was careful as it’s still slippery from all the rain

Showjumping at Monash today – sell your horse for free at www.horseoz.com/forsale

Didn’t enjoy having to leave in the dark as I was in the first group. Also it felt strange driving into the suburbs as the grounds are in Glen Waverley. But it was worth it and all the training over the past few weeks paid of. Got his first 1st place in showjumping after winning the jumpoff, not bad for a horse his size. Regards Walter

Rugs horses and leeches

Was changing the rug on the middle aged (ok he is 25) horse and he kept on stomping is right hind leg. First thought it was one of the leg straps. Then thought he was just being difficult. He kept on stomping. Then I remembered the old trail riding days at Tonimbuk.
There the horses picked up the occasional leech and stomped. So I checked Jarrah’s leg top to bottom. And I found the leech and Jarrah stopped stomping. Funny way to let me know.

Train like you are competing, compete like you are training

Just because you are riding at a competition doesn’t mean all of a sudden you don’t correct your horse if he does something wrong or ignores your aids. But you also should not ask more of him that you normally would. Also if you’re ‘just’ training it wont do any harm to pretend you are at a competition. If you ride them the same every time mostly they should give you the same ride. If you need to do something new to the horse a competition is not the place to do it.
